Your Body Isn’t “Getting Old” - It’s Been Adapting

If you worked out hard in your 20s, you probably remember this era:

Train. Play. Recover without thinking - honestly what are aches?

Fast forward to now and suddenly:

• your hips feel tight when you wake up

• your knees complain after leg day

• your lower back stiffens after sitting too long or pulling a deadlift

And the easiest explanation is:

“I guess I’m just getting old.”, "Age is catching up"

But here’s the truth we see every single day at Knotty Strokes:

Most pain isn’t caused by age, it's caused by compensation patterns.

What does that actually mean? Lucky for us, our body is incredibly smart. When one area is weak, stiff, or overworked, another area quietly takes over.

That works… for a while.

Over years of:

• desk work

• intense training without enough recovery

• old injuries you “pushed through”

• repetitive movement (hello technology)

your body adapts its movement patterns just to keep you functioning, until one day it taps out.

Why stretching alone doesn’t fix it?

Stretching the sore spot often feels good, albeit temporarily.

But pain usually isn’t coming from where it hurts, the pain you feel is actually referred pain.

For example:

Lower back pain? the cause is often the hips, glutes, psoas and in worst cases your legs

Knee pain? Often caused by wonky ankles, a tilted pelvis and really stiff hips.

Shoulder pain? Often caused by a stiff thoracic spine, a forward reaching neck and your trapezius

That’s why random massages that are not science/anatomy backed don’t last.

Our approach at Knotty Strokes

We don’t chase where the pain is, we find out where it originated from and we work on the muscled involved in this process.

We look at:

• how your body is compensating

• which muscles are overworking

• which ones have switched off

• how your daily life and training load affect recovery

Then we treat what’s driving the problem, not just what’s screaming the loudest.

Relief is good.

Long-term change is better.

If this sounds familiar…

If you’ve been thinking:

• “Why does this keep coming back?”

• “I didn’t do anything wrong though?”

• “I used to train harder than this…”

You’re not broken.

Your body has just been helping you survive for a long time, quietly.

And it might be time to help it back. If you need some help, you know where to find us ⬇️
